The Third Annual Jim Green Memorial Basketball Tourney hits the courts at the Woodward’s Building on Saturday August 29. Get a team together, show off your dribbling skills (or not), or just come chill with us and support for a great cause.
The Jim Green Foundation raises money for members of the Downtown East Side (DTES). Jim Green was an amazing man who was everything from a longshoreman, taxicab driver, community activist, non-profit housing developing to municipal politician, university instructor and regular at The Charles Bar. This event pays respects to such a great man, and this tournament helps to keep his generosity alive.

Last year we had hundred of friends, fans and spectators come through the Charles Bar and SFU courtyard to check the competition. It was one of the best days we saw all year.
Green, a former Vision Vancouver councilor and mayoral candidate, died of cancer on February 28th, 2012 and was a model Vancouverite. All proceeds from the tournament are donated to his charity.
About Jim Green:
“When news of Jim Green’s death broke early Tuesday morning, it brought together a wide set of friends and opponents, as they paid tribute to his work as a poverty advocate, housing developer, councilor, culture lover and ideas generator.” – The Globe and Mail on Tuesday, Feb. 28 2012
Jim Green was an amazing man who was everything from a longshoreman, taxicab driver, community activist, non-profit housing developing to municipal politician, university instructor and regular at The Charles Bar. Jim was also instrumental in allowing us to get The Charles Bar open. Helped us move the LP license.
In 2013, Kalisha Reid (GM at Colony Bar Kits) wanted to organize an event to pay respects to such a great man and thus this tournament was formed. Proceeds will go to the Jim Green to help keep his generosity alive.
