#GuvFinale: Saying Goodbye To A CDN Institution

This weekend Toronto says goodbye to a Canadian institution—The Guvernment. Over the past twenty years The Guvernment has garnered a near mythic reputation for providing patrons with an unparalleled live experience. In terms of dance music The Guvernment has hosted a who’s who of dance music elite, including: Above & Beyond, Tiesto, Avicii, Deadmau5, Calvin Harris, Fatboy Slim, Armin van Buuren, David Guetta, Markus Schulz, Carl Cox & more.

With a propensity for marathon sets and unwieldy antics The Guvernment has become an artistic favorite for countless DJs. So much so that Deep Dish dedicated an entire Global Underground compilation to their 2003 performance at the club. More recently, in 2009, Markus Schulz released his Toronto ’09 compilation in dedication to the city and more importantly the club he held near and dear to his heart along with an additional recent release from John Digweed.

In recognition of The Guvernment’s undisputed celebrity in the Canadian club circuit it routinely places in the upper echelons of DJ Magazine’s Club Top100: usually as Canada’s highest ranking representative. Currently ranking in at number twenty-two, 2008 saw the club break the top10 and place eighth in global ranking.

Sadly for DJs and club fans alike all good things must come to an end, and in tribute this upcoming weekend has lovingly been dubbed #GuvFinale. Knife Party is set to kick off the festivities on Friday as #GuvFinale fittingly asks fans of the genre defying duo to Abandon Ship. Saturday will act as trance’ final curtain call, a swan song to the genre many view as not only a musical passion but a way of life. Fittingly so these duties befall Armin van Buuren who has promised trance fans an epic night and an unforgettable roller coaster of emotion.

Finally Sunday night’s closing duties befall Toronto’s largest dance music export and outspoken archetype Deadmau5. As always the mau5 has been outspoken and addressed his hoard directly displaying an urgent need to voice his excitement:

“Well, there you go. Happy to be the one closing it out…not gunna lie. I’ll bring some toys, setup a live modular rig for some fun live stuff, and managed to dig up 2 tons of production gear and robotics from our warehouse in Vegas just for this event….ill play as long as i can stay awake and as long as they let me…”

Needless to say this weekend’s #GuvFinale will be a send-off to remember and while we at Blueprint are sad to be such a beloved institution go we can barely contain our excitement as we eagerly await the next chapter of this storied complex. If you are lucky enough to be in attendance this weekend make sure to check out #GuvFinale’s official survival guide.

From us to you, farewell Guvernment.
