EVENT INFO & TICKETS:
There’s something about these walls & what lies within them: a century’s old space that has acted as the epicenter of entertainment & culture in Vancouver. If walls could talk, the moments that have come & gone would tell a tale of something truly magical. Back in 1911, it was the first time Vancouverites could legally have a cocktail when it was named Lester Dance Academy. Move forward to the psychedelic 60’s & 70’s, it was the destination for rock legends such as The Doors, Janis Joplin, The Velvet Underground and Jimi Hendrix – any music aficionado would know that this historical venue was referred to by these legends once as either Elegant Parlour, Dante’s Inferno, Crazy Horse Tavern or Retinal Circus. This is the same space that has since transformed into Celebrities Nightclub; an after dark destination re-born thirty years ago in 1984 as an LGBT club in Vancouver’s historic Davie Village.
If Celebrities could be simplified into a single phrase to us, it would be transcendent; from its transition into a mixed club without prejudice in the late 90’s in response to the growing demand for House music, to the transformation of making itself a symbol of progressive entertainment in Vancouver, Celebrities has been the mainstay of Blueprint as its flagship club. In 2013 it was christened with a multi-million dollar makeover, with a transformation best described as “a high-tech chameleon”. Undoubtedly, Celebrities has remained a destination for DJs & patrons alike. It is with this immense and unique history that we celebrate a storied 30 years of a place we truly consider our second home: Celebrities Nightclub. Throughout the years, Celebrities has hosted an unprecedented number of artists who debuted at early stages in their careers: Skrillex, deadmau5, David Guetta, Avicii, Tiesto, Above & Beyond, Diplo and hundreds of others who went on to international acclaim – and those considered nothing short of living legends to us which include Richie Hawtin, James Murphy, Boy George, Danny Tenaglia & many, many others.
On Friday, November 7th until Monday, November 10th Celebrities Nightclub will celebrate its 30th Anniversary as one of the crown jewels in our city – remembering three decades of history, community, celebrity & more as a heartfelt thank you to the city of Vancouver for contributing decades of iconic culture into this legendary venue.
Starting Friday, we’ll be looking back to our roots with UK house music sensation Hot Since 82 for Stereotype Fridays, the city’s longest running dance music weekly. The following day, our newest residency, Playhouse Saturdays will feature residents DJ Timeline, Marino & Mattilda Ho. Sunday evening, we will be celebrating Celebrities’ identity as a cultural pillar of Vancouver’s gay community for three decades with “House of Celebrities” – a Vogue party featuring a fierce dance battle showcase for charity & a special set from NYC’s Mike Q. Monday wraps up with French phenomena & self proclaimed “G-House” provocateurs, Amine Edge & DANCE closing out the Remembrance Day Long Weekend.
This will be a weekend’s long celebration & reminder, in true Celebrities fashion, to continue proving itself as a symbol of progressive entertainment in Vancouver. After going thirty years strong – no matter your gender, race or sexual orientation – you’re all invited to dance with us & create more life long memories.
