Tonight we move into what may be our favourite festival of the year – Seasons 2014! The lineup that we have carefully put together brings the diversity that our city craves, for the first time showcasing live hip hop as well as some of the world’s most buzzed-about such as Zedd, Flume & many others. There’s definitely a little something for everybody and we hope that you can make it out to experience one of these unforgettable shows. Take a look at our lineup below:
Grammy award winning producer Zedd started with music in his daily routine from early childhood on. Born Anton Zaslavski, Zedd was raised in Kaiserslautern, Germany by two classically trained musicians, he began playing the piano at the age of four and built up his knowledge of the Classical repertoire throughout his childhood, at times writing a song a day. As the aughts progressed, Anton’s awareness of other genres widened, and in 2009 his interest in producing electronic music was piqued after hearing the French electronic duo Justice. With his gift for musicality and background in instrumentation, composition and production, the move into the realm of electronic dance music was seamless.
In the middle of a global explosion of Electronic Dance Music, a genre that thrives in the most exclusive nightclubs of the world’s cosmopolitan cities, a prodigious producer has emerged from the unlikeliest of places. Using a very basic set up, and a secret cocktail of plug-ins, Audien worked diligently to hone his craft. By age 17, while his friends were either preparing college applications or teeing up jobs, Audien began to test the waters by sending his unsolicited music out to producers, labels & bloggers. Though confident in his sound, Audien carefully managed his expectations, suspecting it was unlikely that he’d hear back from a random demo submission. An enthusiastic response came, however, from Flashover Recording…
The # Been Trill # team composed of Virgil Abloh, Matthew M. Williams, Heron Preston & more have emerged as a self-sustaining collective that finds the time to work on clothing designs, do cultural consultation/fashion merchandising as well as DJ live sets around the world. In recent months, they’ve worked with everyone from upstart hat designer 40 Oz. VAN to street wear brands such as Stussy, Hood By Air, PYREX VISION and Diamond Supply. #BEEN #TRILL is a DJ collective of creative directors who have worked closely with Kanye West, combining a mixture of avant garde & street influences that connects directly to urban culture in the 21st century while remaining inside the luxury life.
A producer’s producer, who counts Fedde Le Grand, Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell, Ti‘sto, Avicii, Alesso, Erick Morillo, David Guetta and Calvin Harris among his biggest fans the man behind hits ‘Tung’, ‘Hertz’, ‘Bong’, ‘Follow You’, and more spent his formative year immersed in the world of DJ and production hardware. Hard-earned pocket money was readily swapped for all the second-hand synths and drum machines he could find; hours were spent dissecting the works of Depeche Mode, Daft Punk, Kraftwerk or Cassius; days were spent honing his DJ skills, editing his favourite tracks using nothing more than small tape recorders, sampling whatever he could lay his hands on.
Before 2012 Duke Dumont was known as a ‘producer’s producer’. He was the name on a 12″ record the DJ knew to reach for when he wanted to please the crowd, without them knowing who had constructed the mesmerizing sonic confection they were dancing too. In 2012, two EPs on Tiga’s Turbo Recordings (with whom Duke has had a long standing relationship) changed all that. ‘For Club Play Vol. 1 & 2’ offered up sweet ecstatic deep house & UK bass cuts that have united people across the spectrum of music, from early club adopters like Annie Mac, Erol Alkan, Diplo, Martyn and Jackmaster to Fearne Cotton on daytime Radio 1, Trevor Nelson on 1xtra and even podcasts by Tiesto and Avicii.
Sydney-based Harley Streten, aka Flume, got his first taste for producing at age 13 from the most unlikely of places – a music production program he found in a cereal box. Taking a no-holds-barred attitude to music creation Flume takes inspiration from a wide variety of sources and scenes distilling his sound into a melodic bass heavy style of his own. In an interview with Dazed Digital last year, Australian beatmaker Flume said, “Music essentially boils down to two main elements, rhythm and melody. I feel tones and textures often get overlooked, so I like to take my time finding the right sounds.” The approach is working for the unassuming 21-year-old musician, otherwise known as Harley Streten…
Change has been a constant theme throughout the successful career of Green Velvet aka Cajmere, but as he has crossed genres, explored themes from the comedic to the serious and changed monikers, the common thread running through the music he has made for nearly two decades is its roots in and dedication to the Chicago House sound. The last decade also saw Green Velvet become a fan favorite across Europe, playing to huge crowds at festivals in addition to live radio appearances and club gigs. Numerous side projects and remixes under various names also added to his seemingly nonstop musical output. The ongoing evolution in the music, career and life of the artist born…
Canadian duo Project 46 made an undeniable impact on the progressive house scene this year, on a meteoric rise that started when their breakthrough Monstercat release Reasons featuring vocals by Andrew Allen went straight past Tiesto to the #1 overall spot on Beatport. Living at opposite ends of the country has not slowed down the steady flow of productions from the Project 46 studios, as Ryan and Thomas find time to post new tracks on their Soundcloud page at least weekly. Their refreshing mixes of originals, remixes, bootlegs, and mashups have kept fans engaged and drawn massive support from followers across the globe. Fast forward a few months, and releases on SPINNIN and Manufactured Music…
As one of the most truly innovative, versatile, and sought-after producers in all of dance music, it is undeniable that Seven Lions is on an exponential rise to international prestige. My Name Is Tiga. Welcome to the Bio-Dome, mec! Over the past few years, I have continued to tour the globe extensively. I have eaten Club Sandwiches in over 60 countries and done “The Sandwich” in over 600 clubs. I was also brave enough to visit the Middle East, with a harrowing trip to war-ravaged Dubai. I was taken falconing (this is 100 percent true), which was strange enough before I found out that the falcons undergo extensive plastic surgery to look more like celebrities. My falcon, I was told, was supposed to resemble Ethan Hawke. I don’t know who that is. The past few years have also seen resurgence at my record label, Turbo. The work done by Thomas Von Party in A&R and Oliver Interactive…
Head banging, unmistakable locks at large and fist in the air, Tommy Trash is not your stereotypical dance music icon. Armed with an arsenal of his own carefully created anthems, he has rejected the clean-shaven no-nonsense image of many a peer. Tommy’s work hard play hard antics have carved him a unique position in a scene in desperate need of rebels. Outside his party-hard stage presence, the Grammy and VMA nominated producer’s approach to mind-blowing music remains as heartfelt as they come. With Platinum records around the world, singles on labels ranging from Axtone to Fool’s Gold, from Refune to Mau5trap, and from Spinnin’ to Owsla and Boys Noize, every new installment of his diverse…
Everything that glitters is not gold. But rap artist Trinidad James assures listeners that everything that IS GOLD IS HIS. The Trinidad-bred, hip hop storyteller and “Gold Gang” godfather swiftly emerged from the mines of Underground Atlanta in 2012 with the straight-forward anthem “All Gold Everything”. The swaggering single immediately introduces James’ passion for loyalty, women, style, (his hate of wannabes), and of course GOLD. On his introductory mixtape, Don’t Be S.A.F.E. (Sensitive As Fuck EveryDay), Trinidad James admits, “the only souls [soles] I’ve ever loved were my Jordans and my mama”. Focusing his strong business hustle to the development of a popular men’s boutique.
“I think that people only need to know that I am Tchami. I am an artist. And I am definitely not a football player. My music has to speak for me. If not I’d rather do something else in my life. I had the vision of the EP before I made it,” says Tchami. “When it was done I sent it to a friend who really loved the EP. He loved it at that point that he sent it to A-Trak. And now you know what happened next” Though this release leans toward certain styles, Tchami has a wide range of inspirations. “I listen to a wide range of music that inspires me a lot in my creative process,” he explains. “So my tastes can go from Todd Edwards to Dj Premier, from Donny Hattaway to Dj Mehdi and so much more. For this EP I really wanted…get tickets
