They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but what can hundreds of photos say in one festival review? Lots.
We set out to recap this year’s Mad Decent Block Party, aka #MDBPVAN #MDBP2014 for you featuring Diplo, Dillon Francis, Fatboy Slim, Flosstradamus, Bear Mountain & STRFKR. Expectations and excitement ran high last Sunday afternoon at the PNE Ampitheatre. For many, this show was the first Mad Decent Block Party for Vancouverites & it’s easy to say we were all to see how the MD squad could top their previous tours. And if that wasn’t enough for the masses, the MDBP afterparty at the legendary Commodore Ballroom rounded out the evening with a surprise performance from Diplo & Bear Mountain (once again!) and Expendable Youth.
Never been to a Mad Decent Block Party Before? Our friends at NOISEY captured the essence of MDBP perfectly, stating;
“Their aesthetic is best described in a single word: turnt. If you search “mad decent turnt” on Twitter, you get countless results. It’s a term that, much like the word “trap,” has essentially lost basically all of its connotations. You can get turnt in an airplane, on a boat, on top of a house, at a party, pretty much anywhere where people can logically breathe. What is involved in the process of getting turnt? Pretty much anything, it seems. The main component to getting turnt, it seems, is being in the proximity of bass-heavy dance music, preferably released by Mad Decent.”
