The tail end of a long Canadian winter is arguably the worst time ever; those terrible few months before spring finally hits and blesses our province with warmer temperatures and a little bit of sunshine.
Making vodka lemonade out of lemons, however, the first ever Canadian edition of Snowbombing is scheduled to touch down at Sun Peaks Resort April 6-10! A one of a kind music festival that combines full days of shredding fresh powder with long nights of dancing and partying, Snowbombing brings the term “après-ski” to a whole new level.
“Snowbombing offers so much more than your average festival,” explains Daisy Toomer from the original Snowbombing team in Austria. “From luxurious hotels and spas, to igloo parties and headline performances in the middle of a forest clearing, there is something for everyone at Snowbombing. Whether it’s learning to ski or board for the first time or catching your favourite DJ in an underground club.”
Combining a wide range of music genres from hip hop and EDM to live indie bands and drum and bass combined with the breathtaking scenery of Sun Peaks Resort, Snowbombing Canada is a once in a lifetime experience. “Our venues need to be seen to be believed,” says Toomer, excitedly. “There will be a mountain terrace with a dance floor deck looking over the entire mountain, an alpine stage in the middle of a forest and an underground car park transformed into a party venue. All of which will be situated within the beauty of Sun Peaks.”
Having played Snowbombing Austria previously, tech house producer Oliver Heldens will be joining the inaugural Snowbombing Canada lineup this year. “That show was awesome,” recalled Heldens of his last performance at Snowbombing Austria. “I remember the crowd being really into it because everybody was dressed up in either their snowboarding costumes or other weird outfits; the vibe was amazing. Usually, people wear casual clothing to a festival so seeing everyone at Snowbombing Austria go wild in their snowboarding costumes made the atmosphere so special.”
When it comes to experiencing the four day long festival, pacing and endurance is the key to taking in all Snowbombing Canada has to offer. “We have a ski and snowboard festival taking place on Saturday, April 8th that will feature pro skiers and boarders in combining 3 different mountain sporting events,” shares Toomer. “Our two headlining performances will take place at our epic Forest Stage and everyone should look forward to the Snowbombing Street Party with a ‘Lederhosen x Lumberjack’ theme too!”
“When Snowbombing started over 17 years ago, it was a very distant dream to one day do it in North America,” says Toomer. “Now that dream is a reality and it couldn’t have happened any better than in the superbly stunning Sun Peaks resort, which strangely looks just our Austrian home Mayrhofen.”
