What a year 2014 has been for Blueprint, with so many changes and unique contributions to our company, we collected some individual year-end best of 2014 lists provided by a variety of talented producers, DJ’s & staff members (or maybe in some circumstances, a collection of all three!) in reflection. Looking back, here are their picks for the best of the year courtesy from;
TIMELINE – Dan Wurtele, Director of Concerts for Blueprint
EXPENDABLE YOUTH – Assistant Marketing Director for Blueprint/Mad Decent

Favourite artist of 2014?
EXPENDABLE YOUTH: Young Thug
SAM DEMOE: Man, I really hate picking one person, as their seems to be more new and amazing music this year than ever ( a lovely feeling ) but I would have to say Kill Frenzy. He balances a fine line of ghetto, booty, pervy, perky, bouncy house music.. His latest album is amazing and he is just getting into his swing.
TRISTAN ORCHARD: Mac Demarco
SLEEPY TOM: Cashmere Cat
JOHNNY JOVER: Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman
Favourite album of 2014?
TIMELINE: Only album I bought was the Weeknd, Trilogy. So guess I have to say that one
EXPENDABLE YOUTH: Who listens to albums? I don’t know.. but Azealia Banks had an underrated (ignored?) album that’s very good. I guess “Syro” by Aphex Twin from a fan standpoint but I didn’t really listen to it as much as I wanted to. I was pleasantly surprised by how good RL Grime’s album was. About as good of a cohesive, “EDM” based album that could probably ever get released.
SAM DEMOE: Drake
TRISTAN ORCHARD: Justin Bieber Journals
SLEEPY TOM: Jungle – Jungle
JOHNNY JOVER: The Doors – The Doors
Breakout artist of 2014?
TIMELINE: Cedric Zeyenne
EXPENDABLE YOUTH: Sophie, AG Cook & PC Music – that whole London scene of hyper pop injected dance music is gonna bring maximal back in a big way in 2015.
SAM DEMOE: Project Pablo / Sabota
TRISTAN ORCHARD: FKA Twigs
SLEEPY TOM: Mø
JOHNNY JOVER: Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman
Favourite Vancouver Act or DJ of 2014?
TIMELINE: Lazy Rich
EXPENDABLE YOUTH: Mood Hut and all their associated friends put on some good parties and put out some really world class records. Big up to them for making Vancouver an internationally respected House Music hub. Derek Duncan started up a label called Pacific Rhythm and he put out a great record showcasing some of the best Vancouver House Music producers (Cloudface, Hashman Deejay, Lnrdcroy) around. Also Pomo’s EP on HW&W is a very musically rich and ambitious release. Big up to him as well.
SAM DEMOE: Flosstrabongus.
TRISTAN ORCHARD: Sabota
SLEEPY TOM: Rook Milo
JOHNNY JOVER: Me 😉

EXPENDABLE YOUTH: Personally – FKA Twigs at the Commodore
From a work perspective, hands down Contact 2014. Was a seriously huge deal.
SAM DEMOE: Hmm… Nas at Vogue was pretty dope, after 20 years he was actually so on point. Same voice, same cadence, same flow.. Have listened to Illmatic about 50 times since.. haha
TRISTAN ORCHARD: Future Islands at Rickshaw
SLEEPY TOM: Arcade Fire at Squamish festival
JOHNNY JOVER: Maceo Plex sunset party in Barcelona on the top of Montjuic
Favourite show you played in 2014?
TIMELINE: Celebs Playhouse 1YR
EXPENDABLE YOUTH: My set at Squamish Festival was a career highlight. Also, being able to follow Diplo at the MDBP afterparty at the Commodore and being able to hold the crowd by playing basically everything under the sun was really fun.
SAM DEMOE: Basscoast. My set was Friday Night 11-12 on Slaybay.. It was absolutely ‘Go-Time’ and was actually magic.
TRISTAN ORCHARD: BESTiE opening for Mother Mother at the sold out Danforth Hall in Toronto
SLEEPY TOM: Ilesoniq festival in Montreal

SAM DEMOE: Britney Spears.
TRISTAN ORCHARD: No 2014 Drake album.
SLEEPY TOM: When my fav DJ Mr. Oizo cancelled last minute at this gnarly EDM/Metal festival I was playing outside Edmonton. I don’t hold it against him tho (he was supposed to play after DJ BL3ND).
JOHNNY JOVER: Avicii’s drug problem lol
What excites you the most for 2015?
TIMELINE: Squamish Fest / Contact 2015
EXPENDABLE YOUTH: More festivals, more house & techno, more sleepless nights & more of our (Expendable Youth’s) own music coming soon.
SAM DEMOE: Learning new things, helping design some cool shit with the team and becomingaan organizational guru. Probably will take some piano lessons and actually make some good music.. Just live really. Sit-ups.
TRISTAN ORCHARD: Views From The 6th, Local act Willa, Grimes new LP, sleeping more
SLEEPY TOM: To release new songs and play in new cities!
JOHNNY JOVER: New Shine Nightclub
