March 8th, a day best known as International Women’s Day, is a day for celebrating and encouraging one another to continue to make strides forward for women. This year, the celebrations will continue on further with ongoing entertainment from some of today’s most inspiring, entrepreneurial, and game changing female artists. Here is a quick glimpse into some of the influential women making their way through the city in the upcoming months.
Kehlani – An R&B singer-songwriter that has been embraced for her wholehearted, tell it like it is persona. She has been making an impact with her most recent album release “SweetSexySavage”. With this album, she was nominated for the Outstanding Musical Artist award at the 2017 GLAAD Awards. Fvded in the Park July 6th & 7th at Holland Park.
Rezz – A young DJ/producer from Ontario, Canada. She started producing music at just 16 years old and in 2015 was signed to the label Mau5trap. Earlier this year, she released her first full length album and it landed at #16 on the US Dance charts. Fvded in the Park July 6th & 7th at Holland Park.
Cardi B – A female rapper, who is currently taking the world by storm with her “no filter attitude”. Her hit single “Bodak Yellow” has allowed her to break many records for female rappers within the last year, even going 3x platinum in Canada. Snowbombing Canada April 5th – 9th at Sun Peaks Resort.
Peggy Gou – A DJ/producer who has given a new vibe to the house music realm, in just a short amount of time. She has recently released an EP called “Once” and was nominated for the Best Newcomer award at the 2017 DJ Awards. Saturday, April 14th at Celebrities Underground.
Charlotte Day Wilson – An R&B/Soul singer-songwriter from Toronto, Canada. She has recently released her second EP “Stone Woman”. The new comer has already been an active trailblazer in Canadian music, and has been nominated for Best New Canadian Artist at the 2017 MuchMusic Video Awards. Tuesday, March 20th at Fortune Sound.
Clermont Twins – The twins, Shannon and Shannade got their start on the reality TV show, Bad Girls Club. Since then, the dynamic modeling duo have gone on to work with many A-list celebrities, such as, Kanye West and Future. Wednesday, March 21st at Celebrities hosting REUP.
Yaeji – An electronic music artist, was signed to the label Godmode from her early start in 2016. Her most recent EP “EP2” has received positive reviews, achieving her a spot in BBC’s Sounds of 2018 list. Saturday, March 31st at Celebrities Underground for Seasons Festival.
Alice Glass – A Canadian singer-songwriter who has embarked on a solo career, after being the frontwoman for the band, Crystal Castles, since 2006. She has been awarded countless awards for her time with the band, but now all eyes are on her and what boundaries she will surpass as a solo artist. Wednesday, May 2nd at the Rickshaw Theatre with Zola Jesus.
Zola Jesus – An American singer-songwriter who is known for her constant abilities to blend various genres together. Zola started her career in 2009 and since then, has released four EP’s and five full length albums. Wednesday, May 2nd at the Rickshaw Theatre with Alice Glass.
Noodles – A DJ since the age of 16, she has nailed the perfect combination of R&B classics, modern day rap, and EDM. Noodles has spent the last four years working alongside Kehlani, as her tour DJ. Fvded in the Park July 6th & 7th at Holland Park.

It’s safe to say, that Vancouver is in no shortage when it comes to celebrating International Women’s Day this year. With all the female power emerging and being shared throughout the city, the commemoration and encouragement of steps forward for women will last beyond one single day of the year.
