Ahead of his #EMBRVCESATURDAYS takeover this Sat, April 21st at VENUE, we caught up with Dannic to get to know him a little better.
Dannic, the prodigious DJ and producer from Breda in the Netherlands – the hometown of Tiësto and Hardwell – is one of the fiercest acts to emerge from a new generation of Dutch artists, cementing himself as a go-to name that delivers within the world of big-room, grooving house.
A few questions with Dannic:
Strangest tour rituals?
I don’t have any strange rituals, I’m pretty normal on the road! But if I have a few days, I’ll always try and check out some local sights that I won’t see anywhere else – Pandas in China was a huge recent highlight for me.
How do you prepare for a set?
I like to try and work out the day of a show if I can, usually at the hotel I’m at but it can be difficult with travelling and call times. I like to get pumped up, work through edits and sometimes have a beer.
What’s the most obscure item on your rider?
Jägermeister! Some countries it’s impossible to get – although it is a German spirit, it is huge amongst us Dutch.
What new music do you have in the works and what can we expect from you in the near future?
Well I’ve just recently released ‘Stay’ with INNA on Spinnin’ which I really enjoyed, collaborating with her was so much fun and I really think she captured the sunny vibes of the track with her cool vocal. I also just released ‘NRG’ on my own label Fonk with Teamworx who I’ve championed for a while now – heavy big-room full of energy with a typical Dannic groove.
What is your favourite city / festival to play and why?
I love playing Tomorrowland, I’ve played everywhere from the mainstages, to guest stages and smaller arenas and every single one has this crazy, unique energy.
I also have my own residency out in Tokyo in Japan which is so much fun, the city is like something from the future and is really moving forward with it’s different sounds in EDM.
Any favourite spots to visit or get food in Vancouver?
I really enjoy Miku, it’s Asian Fusion down by the water, beautiful views with fresh food.
