Three Local Micro-Breweries You Have To Visit

If your neighbourhood is smelling like a wonderful mix of hops, barley, clean water and love, it’s due to the fact that breweries and tasting rooms are popping up like crazy – an unprecedented 9 this year alone, with more coming in 2014. We’re stoked and you should be too. Though we’re a far cry from Oregon – which boasts about 153 brewing companies – we’re happy with the handful cranking out magnificent products here at home. Here are a few sure bets. Look for us to be smiling, pint in hand, and any or all of the places listed below. Think local, drink local!

1) 33 Acres

A clean, well-lighted place on West 8th Ave imagined in the spirit of community giving and sharing, 33 Acres has only 2 beers on offer – 33 Acres of Life and 33 Acres of Ocean (see the theme here?) but both are delicious. They also have a killer Instagram.

2) Brassneck

Opened recently on Main and 5th by one of the daddies of Vancouver’s craft beer scene, Nigel Springthorpe, this woodsy, sudsy, awesome little joint sports names for their beers (‘The Barn Burner’, ‘The Passive Aggressive’) as wry as their products are tasty.

3) Parallel 49

We’ve been supporters of these dudes from Day One. Tucked away in East Van at 1946 Triumph with a tasting room always full and the counter lined up with loyalists filling up their growlers, Parallel 49 has a hoppy leaning, interesting collaborations and an un matched passion for brewing.
